Charles L. Werner
Fire Chief, Charlottesville,
VA
Charles
Werner is a 28 year veteran of the
Charlottesville VA Fire Department and
presently serves as its fire chief. Chief
Werner has achieved international Chief Fire
Officer Designation through the Commission
on Chief Fire Officer Designation.
Werner serves as the
Technology/Interoperability Chair for the
Virginia Fire Chiefs Association and on the
Virginia’s Statewide Interoperability
Executive Committee and he was the first and
past chair.
Chief Werner serves on the International
Association of Fire Chief’s Communications
Committee.
In 2003, Charles authored and was awarded a
FEMA Interoperability grant for $6M and
presently fills the role as project manager.
Since that Chief Werner has been involved in
acquiring over $300,000 in grant funding.
Charles also has worked to develop federal
grant distribution procedures and served as
a peer evaluator on several funding review
processes.
Chief Werner is a nationally published
author with over 60 published articles. He
is a contributing editor for Firehouse
Magazine, Firehouse.com, Homeland Protection
Professional Magazine and Mobile Radio
Technology.
Chief Werner is a technology advocate and
presently serves on numerous local, state
and national interoperability working
groups. He serves on the national SAFECOM
Executive Committee, the DMIS Working Group
and others.
